Heartbeat Drum Machine

Heartbeat Drum Machine is a profound intersection of medical advocacy and avant-garde hardware design. Created through a collaboration between audiovisual designer Love Hultén and Teenage Engineering, the site serves as a digital showcase for a modular synthesizer that translates the echocardiograms of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) into rhythmic sequences. It is a poignant piece of functional art designed to raise awareness for a condition that remains largely misunderstood by the general public. The visual identity is strikingly clinical yet deeply human, utilizing a high-contrast, minimalist aesthetic that mirrors both laboratory precision and the raw vulnerability of its subject matter. Through expansive whitespace, sharp typography, and high-fidelity product photography, the design creates a somber, respectful atmosphere. The use of red accents against a sterile white and black palette serves as a visual metaphor for the life-sustaining rhythms at the core of the project.
